Why: The Great Indian Kitchen was a film that came out of nowhere onto an OTT platform (Neestream) none of us had even heard of. But this true-blue indie snowballed into a phenomenon with viewers across the country and it became an even bigger point of discussion on social media. His style was minimal and almost painfully cyclical, but it needed to be to show how mundane, tiring and humiliating a housewife’s life could be in such a household. And as Nimisha Sajayan’s character walks away from this house, we get a splendid tracking shot that reveals without any dialogue that sadly, her story isn’t so special. She’s just one of thousands.
